📖 Historical & Mythological Significance
Govinda Kund is deeply connected with the Govardhan Leela of Lord Krishna.
According to scriptures:
After Lord Krishna lifted Govardhan Hill to protect the residents of Braj from heavy rains sent by Indra,
King Indra realized his mistake and felt ashamed.
Indra, along with Surabhi (the divine cow), came to Govardhan to perform the abhishek (ceremonial bathing) of Krishna.
This divine coronation ceremony is known as “Govinda Abhishek.”
The water used in that abhishek formed Govinda Kund.
Thus, this place marks the moment when Krishna was honored as “Govinda” – the protector of cows and devotees.
